MCC offers a family-centered model and is committed to both working with and supporting our families in order to reinforce the tireless work of our students and faculty at MCC. We also understand the unique and varied challenges that families with children with special needs can encounter in the home setting and provide a wide range of supports.
MCC welcomes our students’ siblings, grandparents, and extended family members to participate in special days throughout the year with activities that are designed to promote positive and successful interactions.
MCC recognizes the challenges of raising a child with special needs and provides several services to assist parents in maximizing their child’s educational experience. MCC offers a behavioral parent education program in the use of effective and non-coercive parenting practices. These collaborative sessions are provided through workshops, individualized support sessions, clinical team meetings, support groups and home visits.
MCC’s network of family supports also includes extended family members. Throughout the year, MCC hosts Grandparent’s Day. These special days include opportunities for education and readings about topics relevant to interacting with their grandchildren. Individualized sessions are also offered for grandparents to learn how to apply specific strategies and tactics with their grandchild.
MCC hosts several sibling events that provide a safe environment in which siblings of our MCC students can foster friendships and celebrate their uniqueness as a sibling through their participation in creative and recreational activities.
